The phono inputs can be selected on-the-fly with\u003cbr\u003ethe source dial. Alternatively, the FFPre is available with MM gain phono section\u003cbr\u003e(45dB@1kHz). The standard cartridge load pattern on the phono inputs of 3XMC and\u003cbr\u003e3xMM sunits are\u003cbr\u003e(P1, P2, P3)=(100, 200, 500), (P1, P2, P3)=(47K, 47K, 47K)\u003cbr\u003erespectively. Other cartridge load values can be easily installed on request.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eNotably, it is not possible to implement MM and MC phono gain simultaneously\u003cbr\u003efor technical reasons!\u003cbr\u003eFurthermore, the amplifier provides three line inputs (RCA jacks) with different gain\u003cbr\u003eand input impedance characteristics as described below.\u003cbr\u003eMedium Line Gain on Input #6\u003cbr\u003eThe gain on input #6 is 26dB (20-times). This input has a comparatively high input\u003cbr\u003eimpedance of 80.000 ohms and is suitable for classic line level programm sources\u003cbr\u003esuch as phono pre-amplifiers, tape machines or tuners.\u003cbr\u003eLow Line Gain on Input #4 and #5\u003cbr\u003eInputs #4 and #5 offer a gain of 18dB (8-times, 18dB=26dB-8dB) and are meant for\u003cbr\u003emodern high-output digital sources such as CD\/DVD players, DACs and streamers.\u003cbr\u003eThe input impedance on these inputs is 30.000 ohms.\u003cbr\u003eSummarizing, the standard gain pattern on the inputs is\u003cbr\u003e(MC, MC, MC; 18, 18; 26) dB, (MM, MM, MM; 18, 18; 26) dB\u003cbr\u003eon 3xMC and 3xMM units respectively. Other gain patterns can be easily\u003cbr\u003eimplemented on demand. For example\u003cbr\u003e(MC, MC, MC; 10, 10; 18) dB, or (MM, MM, MM; 18; 26, 26) dB.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOUTPUTS\u003cbr\u003eThe line section of the FFPre terminates in a twin output (2x2 RCA jacks). It is thus\u003cbr\u003epossible to simultaneously drive a power amplifier and an active sub-woofer without\u003cbr\u003efurther adaptation. The twin output is also useful for proper dual-channel mono\u003cbr\u003eplayback installation with SINGLE-COIL phono cartridges as described in the user\u003cbr\u003emanual. The output impedance of the line section is sufficiently low (300 ohms) to\u003cbr\u003edrive long cable runs and an input impedance as low as 10.000 ohms without\u003cbr\u003ecompromising sound quality. The 3dB-down frequency of the response is still well\u003cbr\u003ebelow the audio band (lower than 5Hz, 3.3MFD output coupling capacitor) under\u003cbr\u003e10.000 ohm loading conditions.\u003cbr\u003eThe FFPre also comprises a pass-through output (QUELLE) for the activated\u003cbr\u003eprogramm source. If one of the phono inputs is switched active the (amplified and\u003cbr\u003eequalized) phono signal is forwarded to the pass-through output. Such the phono\u003cbr\u003esection of the FFPre can be tapped and combined with an external line control\u003cbr\u003eamplifier or integrated amplifier!\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eVOLUME CONTROL\u003cbr\u003eA pair of high-grade continuously variable potentiometers is employed for separate\u003cbr\u003eMANUAL volume control of the channels. These parts are made to our taper\u003cbr\u003especifications (by ALPS in Japan) so as to allow for conveniently fine volume\u003cbr\u003eadjustment. Each pair of potentiometers is hand-picked from a larger production\u003cbr\u003ebatch by careful measurement to ensure matched attenuation characteristics with\u003cbr\u003erespect to angle of rotation. Consequently the volume knob scales are a reliable\u003cbr\u003ereference for channel balance adjustment. Notably, it is not possible to install\u003cbr\u003eremote volume control on the FFPre! This part has been specifically designed for low\u003cbr\u003ebody noise emission and low leakage. Nevertheless, it is mounted to the chassis via\u003cbr\u003eisolation elements in order to eliminate even the slightest interference of residual\u003cbr\u003etransformer vibrations with the circuit.
