Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827)
Symphonie Nr.9 (180g)
Pilar Lorengar, Yvonne Minton, Martti Talvela, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Georg Solti

Label: Decca, 1971 - Serie: Speakers Corner Records

It was foreseeable that Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, with its more solemn gesture in the final chorus, which punctually calls for fraternity at the turn of the year, would count among the musical world cultural heritage. Beethoven researcher Karl Nef prophesied that hundreds of heads had set this music in the most varied of movements and would continue not only to delight thousands and thousands in enjoyment, but also to fundamentally stimulate spiritual life
From the vast amount of recordings, however, only a few sophisticated interpretations stand out. One of these, for whom the professional journal 'The Absolute Sound' has given the coveted reference seal, is the recording with Georg Solti and his perfectly tuned Chicago symphonists. The otherwise rather daredevil staff leader researches here in the deep water of the difficult score and allows Beethoven's wealth of ideas to ferment into the big
picture

The four soloists, who captivate the listener with their natural and soulful tone in both individual and group singing, prove to be the first choice for the detailed and balanced overall view of the jagged work. A dry, very present sound underlines an artistic achievement of the highest level.
